WANTED…Good used OC1 Canoes
Ocean River Paddling Club is looking to purchase used OC1 canoes in good shape. We prefer to purchase Hurricane or Huki canoes, but will consider other options.

It is a full carbon boat in excellent condition.
I was told it weighs 23 lb. I have never bothered to weigh it, but that is as light as a 23 foot hand laid boat gets.
I am asking $2500 for it. I paid $2800 2 years ago and it is in the same condition as when I bought it.

An OC6 can go over for many reasons. Too much weight on the right, wind, rough seas, or mistakes made by the sterns. Knowing how to rescue your canoe and paddlers is required within the first year of a new crew and practiced yearly by all experienced crews. Each crew will have different types of bodies in their canoes and so it is not always ideal to have set seats doing set jobs in the recovery. Each crew is encouraged to develop their own set of roles for their paddlers that make the recovery as efficient and quick as possible. However, for the purposes of instruction, we will assume certain seats perform certain roles.
Clubhouse RebuildThe ORPC clubhouse was suffering from 20+ years on the water and the floor had a 12″ buckle in it deeming the building unsafe. The only way the club could see to rectify the situation was to purchase a ready made float at considerable cost and…
Point Hope Maritime’s Open House – Oct 15th
Point Hope Maritime hosted an Open House on Sunday October 15th noon to 3pm to share information about their proposed graving dock.
It is of vital importance that all community members be informed about this exciting new project that will enhance the waterside view of their shipyard which we understand will not be intruding or negatively impacting upon the paddling community.
Bridges Race 2017 Cancelled
Due to construction of our new clubhouse and boat storage, we are forced to cancel Bridges this year; but, we’ll be back bigger and better next year … and there might even be a new bridge!

ORPC Paddlers win Dragon Boat Gold
Congratulations to, Rita den Otter, Lise Bugeaud and Patti Cross, members of the Ocean River Paddling Club who won GOLD and BRONZE at the Canadian National Dragon boat Championships in Welland, Ontario this August while paddling with the Vancouver Island Paddling’s Gorging Dragons. This fantastic result has qualified VI Paddling Gorging Dragons for next year’s Club Crew World Championships in Szeged, Hungary in July of 2018.
Additionally, these three women paddled on the GOLD Medal, Platinum A Final, Mixed, Women’s and 1500 meter Guts and Glory teams at the Victoria Dragon boat Festival this past weekend in Victoria. VI Paddling won the Bronze medal as well in the Women’s Division with a second women’s team.
If you are a woman aged 50+ or 60+ or a man aged 60+ and would like to try out to be part of a Dragon Boat crew that will compete for the podium in the World Club Crew Championships in Szeged, Hungary you should contact email@example.com.
